Budo Sen’yokai 武道宣揚会

(Society for the Promotion of Martial Arts). An organization established 13 August 1932 under the auspices of the OMOTO RELIGION for the promotion of martial arts activities. Actually, mainly a means for the propagation of the jujutsu form of Morihei UESHIBA who was its first director. Several issues of a newsletter entitled BUDO under the supervision of the Budo Sen’yokai were published and included articles signed by Morihei Ueshiba but actually written by Bansho ASHIHARA (See AN#41). A major dojo was set up in the small town of Takeda (see Inoue Int. AN#74) where special seminars were held. The organization itself ceases to be mentioned around the mid-1930s no doubt due to the Japanese military government’s suppression of the religion culminating in the second OMOTO INCIDENT of 1935.
