“The photo that graces hundreds
of Aikido dojos the world over”
This image is a high-resolution version of one of the most famous photo portraits of Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba. It was taken in Shingu in 1960 when the Founder was 76 years of age. Morihei is seated facing forward, his gaze directly into the camera. His countenance reveals a man of great spiritual depth and experience tinged with kindness. Morihei is elegantly dressed in formal Japanese kimono. This image appears to be one of the earliest formal photos of Morihei Ueshiba from the postwar period and was displayed in the shomen of many foreign dojos in the early days of aikido, especially in Europe.
This important historical photo is being offered for the first time in a high-resolution PDF format. You will be able to scale and print out the image at any size or resolution you choose. You can also take it to any copy and print service for high-quality output to a poster size for personal or dojo display. This beautiful formal portrait is ideally suited for use as a shomen photo and will greatly enhance the look and dignity of any aikido dojo!
