Shigemi Yonekawa 米川成美

(27 July 1910-28 July 2005). Also Seibi and Takaaki. B. Ooarai, Ibaragi Prefecture. First attended an AIKI BUDO seminar in IWAMA sponsored by the BUDO SEN’YOKAI in August 1932. Entered the KOBUKAN DOJO as an UCHIDESHI shortly thereafter. Taught at various locations as an assistant to Morihei Ueshiba both in the Tokyo and Osaka area. Appeared in the famous Asahi News film on Morihei UESHIBA shot c. 1935. Appears taking UKEMI for Ueshiba in all of the photos of the Noma Dojo series shot c. 1935-36. Relocated to Japanese-occupied Manchuria in the 1936. Drafted into the Japanese Imperial Army in 1944 and saw action in Okinawa before being repatriated in 1946. No longer active. Resident of Tsuchiura City in Ibaragi Prefecture. Interviewed AN#35-36.
