Yukiyoshi Takamura

(1928-March 2000). Shindo Yoshin-ryu shihan. B. Otsu, Japan. Began martial training in his grandfather, Shigeta Ohbata’s dojo in Tokyo around the age of six. At age 16, Takamura was symbolically awarded the family school MENKYO KAIDEN in Shindo Yoshin-ryu. His training continued after his father and grandfather’s death in 1945 with Matsuhiro Namishiro and included extensive instruction in kenjutsu. Takamura moved to Hayward, California in 1959 and began teaching publicly in San Jose in 1966. There he cultivated a small group of students who now teach in the U.S. and abroad. He retired to Sweden in 1990 where he passed away.
